CLIMATE SOLUTIONS FOR THE BANANA, PALM AND COFFEE SECTORS IN THE WATERSHEDS THAT CONNECT THE SIERRA NEVADA AND THE CIÉNAGA GRANDE DE SANTA MARTA (MITIGATION OF PRODUCTIVE SECTOR FOOTPRINTS)

Improve water use efficiency and reduce emissions in specific sectors, in order to preserve ecosystems and their biodiversity in the watersheds that connect the Sierra Nevada with the Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta. In addition, we seek to generate market value and obtain commercial, economic and branding benefits for the agro-industrial activities of coffee, banana and palm.

This proposal focuses on the definition of water and carbon footprint baselines for banana, palm and coffee production, marketing and port implementation. It also includes the development of an Integrated Management Plan, which includes the identification of critical points, sectoral water and emissions reduction goals, as well as specific actions to reduce the water footprint and mitigate climate change at the production and watershed level.

The plan is accompanied by continuous monitoring to evaluate the impact of the adopted actions and to follow up on sectoral goals. In addition, capacity building and awareness-raising processes are proposed for producers and traders in the banana, palm and coffee sectors.

In the mid-term, our proposal seeks to generate significant benefits by contributing to the achievement of the 2030 national target of reducing the footprint by 50% (NDC National Target). In the long term, we project that the Coffee, Banana and Palm sectors will reach carbon neutrality by 2050, thus generating lasting positive impacts on environmental sustainability.

In addition, we plan to agree on specific targets for water use reduction, which will strengthen the efficient management of this vital resource. These commitments reflect a comprehensive approach to reaping long-term benefits.
